Hidden Careers in Health Care (Teacher Externship)

An educator immersive externship experience.

Event Details

Health care is experiencing an increase in needs from an aging population. At the same time, interest in many of the careers that support doctors and nurses are seeing enrollment declines and lack of interest. The Kansas City Metropolitan Healthcare Council (KCMHC) is partnering with Real World Learning to provide a day of learning and development for teachers to understand the vast variety of careers available for students today in health care – way beyond nurses and doctors.

The Hidden Careers in Health Care Teacher Externship is aimed at K-12 teachers to explore diverse health care careers and staffing needs. Teachers are encouraged to share insights with students to inspire potential health care career paths.

Event postponed until June 2027 due to World Cup 2026.

For Educators

Step into the shoes of health care professionals and embark on a journey with a health care teacher externship, an immersive experience that goes beyond textbooks.

Start the day in a learning environment to discover innovative teaching strategies followed by onsite experiences at health care organizations. The externship will provide insight into career pathways shaping the future of health and wellness and offer insight for your curriculum that will inspire the next generation of health care leaders.

For Hospital Hosts

Real World Learning and the Kansas City Metropolitan Healthcare Council invite you to participate in an interactive experience for teachers to showcase the variety of careers available in health care.

As a host, your organization will have the opportunity to provide a tour and expert insight into health care professions that teachers can share in their classrooms. Please provide them an overview of your career and as much “real world” experience as possible. If you have ideas of how to take it back to the classroom, the teachers would appreciate your insight.
